Cowboys lose DT Ron'Dell Carter, sign Jordan Mills to practice squad

DALLAS (105.3 The Fan) - The Cowboys' practice squad has undergone a little bit of a shakeup thanks to the Indianapolis Colts.

The Colts poached defensive tackle Ron'Dell Carter from the Cowboys practice squad on Tuesday. Dallas followed that up by agreeing to a deal with veteran right tackle Jordan Mills to take Carter's place on the practice squad.

Carter was a coveted player on the Cowboys practice squad, 105.3 The Fan's Mike Fisher reports.

Michael Gehlken of the Dallas Morning News adds that Carter is the only player the Cowboys protected on their practice squad during each of the first three weeks of the season. He adds that the Cowboys also gave him the highest guaranteed salary (145,000) of any of the rookie free agents they signed.

Mills, 29, has started 84 of the 90 games he's appeared in with the Bears, Bills and Cardinals. He played in three games (2 starts) with the Cardinals in 2019.

The Bears drafted Mills in the fifth round of the 2013 NFL Draft out of Louisiana Tech.

It's unknown if the Cowboys have plans to promote Mills to the active roster. They currently are without both of their starting tackles La'el Collins and Tyron Smith. Terrence Steele and Brandon Knight have been filling in for Collins and Smith.
