The Dallas Cowboys lost arguably their most important assistant coach on Thursday, with defensive coordinator Dan Quinn leaving to become the new head coach of the Washington Commanders.
And according to a report from Dallas Cowboys insider Mike Fisher, former Commanders head coach Ron Rivera could be a candidate to replace him.
Per Fisher, the Cowboys want to 'visit' with Rivera, while they also consider internal candidates such as Joe Whitt Jr. for the position.
Rivera was fired after four years with the Commanders, going 26-40-1 overall and only making the playoffs once in 2020. Before that, he was the head coach of the Carolina Panthers from 2011-2019, going 76-63-1 and winning the NFC South three times in a row from 2013-2015.
Known as one of the brighter defensive minds in football, Rivera led the Chicago Bears to two straight seasons in the top-5 in total defense, including the No. 1 ranked unit in 2005.
