DALLAS (105.3 The Fan) - The Dallas Cowboys suffered an embarrassing 42-10 loss to the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday night in front of a primetime audience.
And according to quarterback Dak Prescott, it was as humbling a loss as could be imagined.
“Didn’t see it coming,” Prescott said. “We put everything into this and got punched in the mouth. Only a couple weeks ago, it was humbling against Arizona, but this may be the most humbling game I’ve ever been a part of.”
The Cowboys, who were seen as a Super Bowl contender entering the game, are now the subject of national ridicule for their performance on Sunday night.
Not only was Dallas thoroughly embarrassed in just about every phase of the game, but were also apparently outclassed talent-wise at just about every position.
But while Prescott admits the Cowboys short comings, defensive star Micah Parsons sees things... a bit differently.
"I don't think [the 49ers] are at a higher level than us," Parsons said after the game. "I think we're the same caliber playoff team. Same talent. Same standards... The score doesn't really show what happened out there."
Luckily for the Cowboys, while Parsons doesn't seem to put too much stock into a 32-point blowout loss in front of a national audience, it appears that Prescott, and receiver CeeDee Lamb are both taking this loss to heart.
“We got to be complete," Lamb said after the game. "We can’t go out there one week and look like a super team and then the following week (expletive) the bed.”
Head coach Mike McCarthy admitted the Cowboys have a lot to fix heading into their next matchup.
“It was clearly humbling, but it is one game," McCarthy said. "Start with me. I didn’t do a good job tonight. It clearly just shows where we are as a team… We've got a lot of work to do.”
The Cowboys will go back to the drawing board hit the road once again next week, as they return to California for another primetime matchup.
This time, in a Monday Night Football matchup against the Chargers in Los Angeles.
