Dak Prescott expected to miss multiple weeks with hamstring injury; Cooper Rush to start vs. Eagles

The Dallas Cowboys season was already off to a bad start. But now, it could be becoming a disaster.

Per a report from NFL insider Ian Rapoport, Cowboys starting quarterback Dak Prescott is set to miss multiple weeks due to the hamstring injury he suffered in the team's 27-21 loss to the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday.

Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy also confirmed that the Cowboys would be without Prescott this Sunday vs. the Eagles, and that they do not have a specific timeline for his return.

"We’re obviously still evaluating," McCarthy said. "We have some information."

The injury occurred in the fourth quarter with Dallas trailing by two scores, and appeared to be a non-contact issue. Prescott went into the blue medical tent following a drive that led to a 57-yard field goal from Brandon Aubrey and was immediately ruled out.

Per the report, Prescott is expected to seek a second opinion.

When speaking with the media after the game, Prescott said "he felt something pull" in his hamstring.

"It was something I've never felt," Prescott said.

Without Prescott in the lineup, McCarthy confirmed that the starting role will go to back up Cooper Rush, who came in to finish out the game vs. Atlanta on Sunday.

“Cooper Rush is as respected of a backup quarterback that I’ve had since Rich Gannon. … (Rush) carries that type of credibility. He’s a great teammate. He’s someone that you can see the young guys lean on," McCarthy said. “He’s wicked smart, instinctive. He does a great job when he runs the scout team. He just does everything the right way. Excellent pro. There will be plenty of confidence in him.”

Much of that confidence is due to Rush's 5-1 record as a starter in the NFL. He'll look to make it 6-1 when Dallas faces the rival Eagles at home on Sunday afternoon.
