DALLAS (105.3 The Fan) - The Dallas Cowboys pulled off one of the more shocking moves of the offseason last week, trading with the 49ers for former No. 3 overall pick Trey Lance.
And while the Cowboys never had any intention of starting Lance over the incumbent Dak Prescott, detractors inevitably assumed it was a possibility.
Of course, that could be difficult for someone in Prescott's position to ignore. However, according to Lance, Prescott has been nothing but helpful since his arrival.
“He welcomed me with open arms," Lance said of Prescott. "That meant a lot to me. Just tons and tons of respect for him.”
Given his lofty draft status, Lance is exactly not in the most ideal situation either.
He was once viewed as the savior and the future of the 49ers franchise. Instead, he was leap frogged by Mr. Irrelevant, Brock Purdy.
But instead of being deterred by his set back, Lance is using his time in San Francisco as a learning experience, and hoping to parlay that into a second chance in Dallas.
"I learned a ton," Lance said. "Just very thankful for everyone there. It's not how I expected it to go. It's not how I think a lot of people expected it to go. But I believe that everything happens for a reason. I think I'm here for a reason. Regardless of what it is, just want to try and find a way to help the team."
And according to Lance, Dallas is just the place he had envisioned to get that opportunity.
“I can say, when I heard Cowboys, I had a big smile on my face," Lance said. “I’ve got to learn and earn every opportunity I get.”
