DALLAS (105.3 The Fan) - The Dallas Cowboys know what they have in quarterback Dak Prescott. At least, they believe they know. Especially when it comes to Prescott's recovery from multiple procedures on his injured ankle.
"Where we sit now, I couldn’t be happier," COO Stephen Jones said, before adding that Dak will be "110-percent ready to go" this season.
Coach Mike McCarthy echoed Jones' thoughts, saying that Prescott "is right on track or maybe a little ahead of schedule" in his recovery.
"I was very impressed with his progress," McCarthy added. "Just coming off the type of injury. His footwork, he's doing all the normal movements that you look to do in a quarterback-school format this time of year."
But what about the Cowboys depth at quarterback? McCarthy was asked about their current situation and expressed that the team 'definitely' wants to add competition behind Prescott.
The Cowboys' backup, turned starting quarterback last season, Andy Dalton, is now the starting quarterback for the Bears.
So, who's up next?
Dallas currently has Garrett Gilbert, Ben DiNucci and Cooper Rush as their backup options on the roster. They could go that route, or, they could draft another quarterback for the second straight year. Texas A&M's Kellen Mond could be an option in the middle of the draft.
Or... they could sign one of these guys who remain without a home.
Nick Mullens, Robert Griffin III, Blaine Gabbert, Brian Hoyer and Blake Bortels are among the signal-callers who are still looking for a job.
But which way will the Cowboys go? Logic says to look for them to sign one of those players should they not pick one up in the draft this week. And with the free-agent talent pool as limited as it is, it might just make sense for them to take their shot at finding some quality depth in the draft this week.
