DALLAS (105.3 The Fan) - The Dallas Cowboys released their 2022 schedule on Thursday night, and on paper, it seems like another favorable draw for head coach Mike McCarthy, as he looks to build off a season that saw the organization make the playoffs for the first time since 2018.
After finishing last season with a 12-5 record, Dallas was upset at home in the divisional round of the playoffs by the San Francisco 49ers. Since then, Dallas lost key contributors in Amari Cooper, La'el Collins and Randy Gregory, and didn't do much in the way of replacing those players' on-field production with comparable players.
The good news for the Cowboys is the fact that they play in one of the worst divisions in football, and will once again have one of the NFL's easiest schedules.
According to CBS Sports, the Cowboys' strength of schedule is tied with the Washington Commanders for the 31st (out of 32 teams) easiest slate.
Dallas will face teams with a combined record of 133-155-1 and a combined winning percentage of .462 from 2021.
The schedule includes nine home games and eight road games after the NFL added a 17th game to the schedule in 2021. Dallas had eight home games and nine road games last year.
For the second straight season, the Cowboys will open the campaign against Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in primetime, but this time the Cowboys will do the hosting.
Dallas' schedule also includes four games against the AFC South (Titans, Texans, Colts and Jaguars), four games against the NFC North (Packers, Lions, Vikings and Bears), and the extra home game vs. Joe Burrow and the reigning AFC champion Cincinnati Bengals.
