The Cowboys are hiring former Commanders defensive line coach Jeff Zgonina and former Cowboys defensive end Greg Ellis for defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer's staff, Todd Archer of ESPN reported Friday.

Zgonina will replace Aden Durde, who left to be the Seattle Seahawks defensive coordinator, as defensive line coach. Ellis will replace defensive line assistant Shariff Floyd, who followed Dan Quinn to the Washington Commanders.

Zgonina, who had a 17-year NFL career, has coached the Commanders defensive line for the last four seasons. Prior to joining Washington, he coached for the 49ers, Lions and Texans.

Ellis played 11 of his 12 NFL seasons with the Cowboys and was a Pro Bowler in 2007. He played under Zimmer in Dallas for all but three seasons. According to Archer, Ellis has been coaching at Texas College and Southwestern Assemblies of God University.

Dallas also hired Paul Guenther as the team's next defensive run game coordinator. Guenther previously coached with Zimmer in Cincinnati and Minnesota. He last coached in 2021 when he was a defensive assistant for the Vikings.
