DaRon Bland matched the NFL record for pick-sixes in a season last week. It didn’t take him long to set the record.
The Cowboys thumped the Commanders 45-10 on Thanksgiving Day, with the second-year corner putting the finishing touches on the pummeling.
With Dallas up 38-10 and the game already well out of reach, Bland picked off Sam Howell and took it back 63 yards to the house for his fifth touchdown off an interception this season. Four other players in NFL history have had four in a single season, but Bland will now stand alone as the all-time leader.
Bland led all rookies in interceptions last season, so it’s long been clear he has the ball skills to make that kind of impact. That he’s been able to not only pick balls off but also run them back this season has been a boon to a stellar Cowboys defense that is down Trevon Diggs.
