DALLAS (105.3 The Fan) - Cowboys defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence has agreed to a new three-year, $40 million deal, 105.3 The Fan's Bobby Belt reported Monday. Lawrence will receive $30 million guaranteed as part of the agreement.
This deal replaces the final two years on the five-year, $105 million contract Lawrence signed ahead of the 2019 season.
According to Belt, the Cowboys will save $13 million in cap space in 2022 with Lawrence's cap number dropping from $27 million to $14 million. Had Dallas released him prior to June 1, they would have saved $8 million.
Tank confirmed the signing in a tweet Monday evening.
Lawrence, who will be 30 in April, hasn’t registered double-digit sacks since 2018, but the Cowboys are a definitively better defense with him on the field.
The Cowboys averaged 1.22 fewer yards allowed per play, and almost doubled their turnover percentage on the snaps Lawrence played in 2022.
Dallas selected Lawrence in the second round of the 2014 draft out of Boise State. He has 48.5 sacks and 308 combined tackles in 103 career games.
