DeMarvion Overshown injury: Jerry Jones says Cowboys LB will need right knee surgery

Injuries have felled the Dallas Cowboys this season, and they now have another big one to add to the list.

Linebacker DeMarvion Overshown, who has blossomed into one of Dallas’ most reliable defensive players, departed Monday’s loss to the Bengals with a right knee injury. There was no update on the 24-year-old following the game, but owner Jerry Jones said Tuesday on Shan & RJ that Overshown will need surgery.

“He’ll need surgery on his right knee," Jones said. "We’re doing the MRI this morning, but we know that it will require surgery.”

The injury comes after the 2023 third-round pick tore his ACL in the second preseason game that year, causing him to miss all of his rookie season.

Because it’s so late in the season, the nature of Overshown’s injury could ultimately cast doubt on how much he’s able to play – if at all – in 2025. Jones wouldn’t go there when asked if we might not see the linebacker again until 2026.

“I don’t know at this time the time date on his rehab," Jones said. "I just can’t tell you how bad I feel for him because he’s just been through that mental and physical rehab on his other knee. To turn around and have to go through that again is going to call on him in a lot of ways.

“It’s the toughest time for a player, and you all see the loss and what it’s going to mean for us in our remaining four games. But the bottom line is that it’s really sad that he’s having to have this surgery – for him as an individual, but obviously also us as a team.”

The standout linebacker will finish the year having played 13 games, starting all but one. He had 56 solo tackles, 34 assists, eight tackles for a loss and five sacks. He also had one interception, which he ran back for a touchdown.
