Shan Shariff explains why Giants game is a 'must-win' for Mike McCarthy's future as Cowboys HC
The Dallas Cowboys enter Thursday night's matchup against the New York Giants in need of a win to help steer the ship back in a positive direction.
Dallas is 1-2 and lost its last two games handily, leading to finger-pointing in the locker room and multiple sideline disputes between players.
Can tonight's game be characterized as a "must-win" for Mike McCarthy to remain the Cowboys head coach next week? 105.3 The Fan's Shan Shariff doesn't believe McCarthy would be in imminent danger of being fired if Dallas were to lose to a Giants team they've beaten in 13 of their previous 14 matchups. However, Shariff believes a loss tonight will ultimately spell doom for McCarthy's future as head coach.
"I believe tonight is a must-win game for Mike McCarthy. Not that he gets fired tomorrow if they lose. Not that the Dallas Cowboys can't make the playoffs if they lose. I don't believe McCarthy survives the season after or within this stretch of games after this one if they drop this game to the Giants," Shariff said on Shan and RJ on 105.3 The Fan. "The heat will be insane. It will get chaotic around here. It's already been pretty crazy. It will be absolute chaos. And who knows how much this locker room folds up and turns on each other with the way the season has started. If the Cowboys lose tonight - Mike McCarthy (has) no chance is back here next year. I don't know if he survives with the stretch they have coming up against the Pittsburgh Steelers, Detroit Lions, San Francisco 49ers, Atlanta Falcons, Philadelphia Eagles, and whatever the Washington Commanders are. ... They have to win."
Shan, RJ and Bobby further discussed the importance of tonight's game and gave their official predictions on who they believe will come out on top.
