Jerry Jones does not think 2024 will be Dak Prescott's final season in Dallas
The Dallas Cowboys are in the midst of trying to find resolutions to the contract situations surrounding three star players in Micah Parsons, CeeDee Lamb, and Dak Prescott.
And while the securing an edge rusher and a true No. 1 wideout are very important to a team's future, quarterback is the most important position on the field.
Suffice it to say, having stability at the position is paramount to the success of the franchise. As such, it has become clear that the Cowboys want to try and find a way to bring back Prescott.
And despite his potential contract numbers being enormous with significant cap ramifications, team owner Jerry Jones seems confident a deal will get done.
“I don’t think so,” Jones said. “Just to be very specific. I do not think this will be his last year with the Cowboys, at all. Am I being psychotic relative to my mirror? No."
Prescott has been a lightning rod in terms of criticism in years past for Dallas.
After all, it is easy to point the finger at the quarterback when a team struggles to get over the hump.
But any rational football fan knows that there are more issues with the Cowboys than the play of their quarterback. In fact, Prescott - at least statistically - has been one of the best performing passers in the NFL in two of the last three seasons.
Either way, Jones wanted to make it clear to the media and the fans - and likely to Prescott himself - that he has nothing but admiration for his QB, despite the lingering negotiations.
“It’s pretty clear, I think. I want to say if it hasn’t been clear — of how much we appreciate what Dak Prescott has meant to this team in a positive way. The players do play better when he’s out there. He does make his teammates play at a higher level there’s no question about it. So I’m right there in line with his best fan.”
The Cowboys and Prescott with hope to get a deal done before the start of the regular season.
If they are unable to do that, they will have until the start of the 2025 league year on March 12 to make something happen.
