DALLAS (105.3 The Fan) - It's no secret the Cowboys could use some help at the wide receiver position after James Washington suffered a broken foot during Monday's training camp practice, sidelining him for the next 6-10 weeks.
However, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said after practice Tuesday that the team has "no urgency" to go out and get a receiver, and that they'll let the process play out in training camp with their young receivers.
Jones also said Washington's absence will create more opportunities for CeeDee Lamb, Dalton Schutz and running back Tony Pollard. But that doesn't necessarily mean seeing Pollard lineup out wide.
"Are we counting out of the backfield throws, sweeps and screens? That to me is the ideal way to maximize getting the ball to him cleanly. So he can do what? Tuck it and do his thing and go," Jones said when asked by the GBag Nation if he'd like to see Pollard used more as a receiver. "I don't have the vision of him going up and making those catches in the middle [of the field], going up on the sideline, and down the sideline, and all of those kinds of things. Let's be candid, he hasn't spent a lot of his career preparing himself to do that. So where I see his receiving [opportunities], he could do crossing routes up a storm. I think he's got the hands [for that]. Make no mistake, he can really catch the ball."
