Dallas Cowboys owner & general manager Jerry Jones isn't ready to make any declarations one way or another when it comes to the future of Mike McCarthy, who will be without a contract following Sunday's season finale against the Washington Commanders.
"What I'm not going to do this morning is to get into any indication one way or the other that I'm not interested in having Mike back," Jones said Tuesday on Shan and RJ on 105.3 The Fan. "I don't want that to be the case at all. We got this game ahead of us, but I'll assure you I've been for weeks thinking about how we'll go forward after this season."
And for those hoping their will be a quick resolution to McCarthy's standing, Jones says he's not in any hurry to make a decision about his coach's future.
"I'm not under any unusual timeframe, at all." Jones said.
What could that timeframe look like?
Jones took one week to replace Jason Garrett with McCarthy after the 2019 season ended. Garrett, who was made interim head coach after Wade Phillips was fired midway through the 2010 season, was in charge for 11 seasons.
He took a more methodical approach after Bill Parcells retired from coaching following the 2006 season, interviewing several candidates before landing on Phillips in early February.
Jones also discussed why he's bullish on the team bouncing back next season, if Trey Lance should start this Sunday, and much more.
