We may have seen DeMarcus Lawrence for the final time in a Cowboys uniform this season, but what about next year?
Lawrence has played his entire 11-year career with the Cowboys and will be an unrestricted free agent this offseason. The 32-year-old has stated he plans to play next season, but his future in Dallas is in limbo or so we thought.
Earlier this week, 105.3 The Fan's Bryan Broaddus reported that the Cowboys were shutting Lawrence down for the rest of this season due to a Lisfranc injury he sustained to his right foot in Dallas' Week 4 win against the New York Giants.
Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones was asked by the K&C Masterpiece on Friday if Lawrence was indeed done for the season and if he has played his last snap for the Cowboys.
"No to all of that," Jones said. "I don't know that he's done for the season because we don't have any idea at this time [if we're still going to be fighting for a playoff spot]. ... I know he's not ready to play. He would be out there if he was ready to go.
"And the other part of your question, you said, 'Is he done with the Cowboys,' the answer to that question is no there."
Lawrence was initially given a return timeframe of between four and eight weeks. He began working in the rehab group on the sideline at Cowboys' practice on Nov. 21 and made enough progress for Jones to declare on Nov. 29 that they "more than likely" would be getting him back against the Cincinnati Bengals on Dec. 9. Lawrence ultimately sat out of that game and last Sunday's win at Carolina, and won't play this weekend against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
