DALLAS (105.3 The Fan) - Hall of Famer Jerry Rice is taking the side of some of the current players in the NFL by saying that 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo is better than Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott.

"I think [Prescott] would have success," Rice said when asked on 95.7 The Game if Prescott would be more successful in Kyle Shanahan's system than Garoppolo. "But I don't think he would be like Jimmy G. Overall, I think Jimmy G is the better quarterback than Dak. I'm sorry. I'm just going to call it. That's just my opinion. That's my opinion, and I could be wrong, but I think, right now, with Jimmy G, he's the better quarterback than Dak Prescott.

"Like I said, two great quarterbacks, but I think in the system that Jimmy G is in right now, and with Kyle Shanahan, and the weapons that he's got around him right now, and they're adding on. Kendrick Bourne is still there. Then you've got Brandon Aiyuk. Then you've got that running game. Then you've got George Kittle. Deebo Samuel is going to be ready to go. So it's going to be exciting this year."

Rice's opinion is shared among those who took part in the NFL's 100 Player Rankings. in that survey, the players rated Garappolo ahead of Prescott.

At the time we conducted an exercise to compare the two against one another that we'll include below:

In 2019, Garoppolo completed 69.1% of his passes, threw for just 3,978 yards, and tossed 27 touchdowns and 13 interceptions.

On the other side, Prescott was a little worse in completion percentage, completing 65.1% of his passes. But, he also threw for 4,902 yards and had 30 touchdown passes and only 11 interceptions. When you dive a little deeper in the numbers you'll see that Prescott had two fewer giveaways than Garoppolo despite throwing 120 more passes than the 49ers signal-caller.

Additionally, Prescott finished fourth in the NFL in Quarterback Rating (70.2) behind Lamar Jackson, Patrick Mahomes and Drew Brees, while Garoppolo finished 12th among QBs in QBR (58.8).

It's understandable that quarterbacks could get a little bump in the rankings after their team makes the Super Bowl, but it's obvious the players aren't paying close attention to the games or the stats when they vote on this list every season.
