DALLAS (105.3 The Fan) - Cowboys linebacker Leighton Vander Esch is on the path to getting back on the football field.
Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy said Wednesday that the linebacker is “going to start working his way in." McCarthy isn't sure if Vander Esch will leave the rehab group and start practicing, just yet, but he's working towards it.
NFL Network reporter Jane Slater joined the K&C Masterpiece today on 105.3 The Fan, and gave an update on when we might see Vander Esch back on the field.
"I just got off the phone with somebody ... and I was told that the collarbone is completely healed," Slater said. "He is going to be working his way back in practice, but I get the sense that we're still looking at about a three to four week timeline, if you're being optimistic. The biggest concern here isn't the fact that it's healed it's when can he physically hit somebody. Because you don't want to re-break the collarbone."
Vander Esch underwent surgery to repair his fractured clavicle after the suffered the injury in the Cowboys Week 1 loss to the Rams.
The initial timeline called for Vander Esch to miss six to eight weeks.
