DALLAS (105.3 The Fan) - Cowboys linebacker Sean Lee is expected to begin the season on injured reserve due to a injury being "characterized as a sports hernia," according to the Dallas Morning News.

Lee reportedly sustained the injury in early August. Depending on the severity of the injury, 105.3 The Fan's Mike Fisher says Lee could need as much as a month to recover. However, should the injury require surgery, he'd need between six to 12 weeks to recover.

The good news for the Cowboys is the fact that the new COVID-19 rules for this season have shortened the length of time a player must be on IR (six weeks to three weeks), and allows for an increase in the amount of players who can come off of it (from three to unlimited).

A healthy Sean Lee appeared in all 16 games last season for the first time in his 10-year career.

Justin March, Joe Thomas and Luke Gifford are the linebackers behind Lee, Jaylon Smith and Leighton Vander Esch.
