DALLAS (105.3 The Fan) - Less than a day after the Cowboys informed Jaylon Smith of his release, the linebacker has set his sights on his next team.
According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, Smith will sign with the Green Bay Packers. The deal won't become official until Thursday.
Per Rapoport, the Packers and other unnamed teams were in a recruiting battle for Smith's services, but with money not being an issue, Green Bay was able to close the deal.
Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy said Wednesday that there were a number of factors that led the organization to move on from Smith, but ultimately it was a "big picture roster move."

According to multiple reports, finances were the key factor in letting Smith walk. The former 2016 second-round pick is guaranteed to earn $7.2 million this season, but the Cowboys would have been on the hook for another $9.2 million if he were to suffer a significant injury. Dallas will pay "most of his 2021 salary," Rapoport reports.
Smith had 516 career tackles, nine sacks and six forced fumbles in 68 career games with the Cowboys.
