Shan & RJ praise Cowboys trade for Patriots QB Joe Milton: 'This is great value'

The Dallas Cowboys have a new backup quarterback.

According to multiple reports, Dallas has agreed to a trade for New England Patriots backup quarterback Joe Milton in exchange for a compensatory fifth-round pick. The Cowboys will also receive a 2025 seventh-round pick in the swap.

"This is great value to me," Cowboys insider Bobby Belt said on Shan & RJ. "The fact that you just sent a fifth over, you get a seventh and Milton. A guy with really high upside. That's a really great trade for the Cowboys."

Shan & RJ also praised the trade after reports earlier this week indicated that the Patriots could receive a fourth-rounder in exchange for the quarterback.

"We're all pretty excited about this. This is refreshing," Shan Shariff said. "I was a little leery talking (a fourth-round pick) for Milton, who was originally drafted in the sixth. A fifth-rounder, and you get a seventh back. I like it. I like that value."

Milton, a 2024 sixth-round pick out of Tennessee, will assume the backup quarterback role behind Dak Prescott after Cooper Rush departed for the Baltimore Ravens this offseason.

Milton, the Patriots' third-string quarterback behind Drake Maye and Jacoby Brissett, shined in the preseason and got an opportunity to start in Week 18 against Buffalo. In that game, he completed 22-of-29 passes for 241 yards and a touchdown. He also rushed for 16 yards with a TD, losing one fumble.
