Dallas Cowboys

Shan Shariff has fiery response to Jerry Jones' defense of GM abilities

Jerry Jones' Dallas Cowboys have won three Super Bowls since he bought the team in 1989, but for the last 28 years, his Cowboys haven't played in an NFC Championship Game.

Over the years, Jones has never been afraid to tell someone that it's his right to be the general manager of the team and that it won't change despite the organization's lack of success of late.

Jones went a step further during a recent visit with Cowboys beat writer Clarence Hill and staunchly defended his record as general manager.

I’ve done it all,” Jones told Hill of AllDLLS.com. “So I have an ordinate amount of confidence that f***, if anybody can figure out how to get this s*** done, I can figure out how to get it done. I’ve been there every which way from Sunday, and have I busted my ass a bunch, a bunch. And there’s nobody living that’s out cutting and shooting that can’t give you a bunch of times they busted their ass. So hell no, there’s nobody that could f****** come in here and do all the contracts ... and be a GM any better than I can.

“Plus, I’m where the buck stops. When it f***s up, I got to cover it. And so there you can’t give anybody enough. Can’t give. There’s nobody can do it.”

Jones was also asked why he doesn't hand the reins off to someone else to be GM?

“The reason I don’t let somebody else be the GM is because I don’t have anybody that I will let do it to actually do it right,” Jones said. “And they’re gonna have to come to me and because I know where it is that you’re going to pay for it.

“If I didn’t give a s***, if this wasn’t fun for me to do, or interesting for me to do, whatever you want to call ... the facts are, I really would rather be f****** around like this,” Jones said. “The point is I love this. And you know I do.”

Joneses' comments led to many responses from the national pundits and a fiery reaction from our very own Shan Shariff.

"I don't care about the 12-win seasons. You can't have 28 years of bad luck. The bottom line, that you can't argue, is no NFC Championship Game appearance. In my book of [what constitutes] success, you have come up short. Is 'failed' too strong of a word? Okay, fine. But you have not got it done," Shariff said on 105.3 The Fan. "So don't sit here and sound delusional and foolish as Jerry Jones does by saying no one else can do it like me. You haven't been to the NFC Championship Game (in 28 years). You have no answer for that. You sound so dug in, and so crazy, that you just want it to be your sandbox.

"If you could get to a Super Bowl, I can think about giving you a pass. You can't have 28 years of bad luck. And any normal person should look at themselves in the mirror after 10, 15, or 20 years and say "I'm not getting it done. Let's do something else.' And he refuses to and will always be blamed, and I will always blame him for that.

"12 wins (in consecutive seasons) ... congratulations. That's good. You've done a nice job. But nowhere near good enough. The NFC Championship Game thing can't be escaped. Even getting close, we can make an excuse for you. ... You haven't even gotten there. So you have failed. For the standard of the Dallas Cowboys ... you failed. And you'll continue to fail. And that's the way you are going to be remembered by many. The overwhelming majority of this audience listening right now is going to remember Jerry Jones as an impediment, a hurdle, a barrier and a wall toward getting to where they are supposed to go. And they will point to him as the No. 1 reason why. And when you can't get to an NFL Championship Game, and you're going on 30 years, that to me can't be argued."
