They made it through the first nine weeks of the season but a Steelers player has now been diagnosed with COVID-19.
Tight end Vance McDonald tested positive for the coronavirus Monday morning and immediately self-quarantined.
A statement released by the team says, “the organization continues to be in the NFL’s Intensive Protocol. We have been in contact with the NFL and medical advisors to complete the necessary contract tracing.”
McDonald has since been placed on the team’s reserve/COVID-19 list.
Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy said Monday that the team was scheduled to hold practice Wednesday, but they'll meet virtually, instead.
Dallas has a bye this week.
As for McDonald, he did not practice on Friday with an “illness,” but made the trip to Dallas on Saturday and played 20 snaps for the Steelers during their 24-19 win.
Any players that are deemed to have had close contact with McDonald will be placed on the COVID list.
The Steelers went into NFL’s Intensive Protocol after Ravens player Marlon Humphrey tested positive last Monday after their game with Pittsburgh.
Contact tracing in that situation lead to seven being put on the reserve list but were cleared before their game against Indianapolis on Sunday.
