Stephen Jones: 'No question' Cowboys have ability to beat good teams on the road

The Cowboys have looked like a different team when they face a good opponent on the road, a frightening trend for a team that might have to win big games away from Dallas this January.

Dallas got walloped by the Bills on Sunday afternoon at Highmark Stadium, 31-10. The Cowboys have yet to beat a team with a winning record on the road, with losses to the Cardinals, 49ers, Eagles and Bills. Their wins have come against the Giants, Chargers and Panthers.

We’re far enough into the season that the inability to get the job done away from home against a quality opponent is a legitimate hole to poke in the Cowboys' success. They have one more good road test remaining in the Dolphins, who they’ll play next weekend in Miami, but otherwise will only face the Commanders in Landover before the postseason.

Should the Cowboys not win the division, they’ll potentially get to host a wild card round game. The rest of the postseason they would have to get through the NFC by playing on the road. Dallas EVP Stephen Jones said Monday on the K&C Masterpiece that he’s confident the Cowboys can beat a quality team at their stadium.

“Absolutely, no question,” Jones said. “We’ve got the right guys, we’ve got the right players, we've got the right coaching staff. I think it’s one of those things where you look at each game, and obviously the San Francisco game and this game last night were tough ones for us. But I thought we played really good football against the Eagles and gave ourselves every opportunity to win it against a good football team. We didn’t make the plays at the end of the game, but we certainly had a chance to win the game and we didn’t do it.

“I just think this team is, like I said, it’s real easy to pile on and I totally understand it. I know our fans are disappointed and I certainly understand the criticism, but we just have to go to work.”
