The Dallas Cowboys are in the midst of one of the most important off seasons in recent memory.
With multiple key players up for extensions, free agents hitting the market and immense pressure from the fan base, making a splashing this spring will be critical to next season's success.
And at the forefront of their agenda, are their negotiations with their star quarterback, Dak Prescott, who will be entering the final year of his deal.
On Tuesday at the NFL Combine in Indianapolis, Cowboys COO Stephen Jones opened up about his feelings about Prescott's future, and that the goal is for him to be a Cowboy for life.
“Oh yes, Absolutely," Jones said when asked about an extension for Prescott. "Our whole thing with Dak is him being a Cowboy. That’s all that’s on our mind.”
Prescott, of course, has consistently come under fire from analysts and fans alike, for his perceived inability to lead the Cowboys on a deep post season run since signing his original four-year $60 million extension in 2021.
Even with his MVP caliber season in 2023, those criticism continued to pop up.
Nevertheless, Jones looks at Prescott as the unquestioned leader of the Cowboys, and will continue to do so going forward as the two parties work toward another deal.
“He certainly does everything in his way to make everybody better and hold people accountable,” Jones said. “He sets a high bar and a high standard.”
