DALLAS (105.3 The Fan) - The Dallas Cowboys made a blockbuster deal earlier this week, trading for Indianapolis Colts star cornerback, and former NFL Defensive Player of the Year, Stephon Gilmore.
And for the first time since joining the Cowboys, Gilmore has opened up about the move, expressing excited about lining up in the same defensive backfield as his new teammate, Trevon Diggs.
“It’s going to be fun... They’ve got to throw it somewhere,” Gilmore said, via Michael Gehlken of the Dallas Morning News. “One of us is going to get tested. Just got to be able to make the plays when they come my way... One of us is going to be making the play.”
Gilmore, 32, comes to Dallas as a former Super Bowl Champion (LIII), NFL Defensive Player of the Year (2019), and a two-time All NFL Defensive First Team member.
Meanwhile, Diggs has proven to be one of the top playmakers in the NFL in his own right, leading the NFL in interceptions in 2021 with 11.
And with the pairing of Gilmore and Diggs on the outside at corner, with rookie standout Da'Ron Bland inside, and the safety group of Jayron Kearse, Malik Hooker and Donovan Wilson, the Cowboys now boast arguably the best secondary in the NFC.
Suffice it to say, opposing quarterbacks will have to pick their poison when passing against the Cowboys in 2023.
