After much speculation, the Dallas Mavericks are officially signing free agent point guard D'Angelo Russell to a two-year, $13 million deal, according to multiple reports. The contract includes a player option for the second season.
Russell will take the place of Kyrie Irving in the starting lineup until the All-Star point guard returns from the torn ACL he suffered last season. Irving, who signed a three-year, $119 million extension with Dallas last week, is not expected to return until January at the earliest.
Russell averaged 12.9 points and 5.6 assists per game across 29 games played between the Los Angeles Lakers and Brooklyn Nets in 2024-25. For his career, Russell is averaging 17.3 points and 5.7 assists on 42.7 percent shooting from the field and 36.5 percent from three-point range.
