Before Luka Doncic took the floor against his former team for the first time on Tuesday night, yet another report leaked out on the Mavericks thinking behind their decision to trade Doncic. And, yet again, the report made no sense.
According to ESPN NBA insider Marc Spears, the Mavericks were convinced that Doncic wasn't going to get them over the hump after watching Boston Celtics guard Jaylen Brown 'shut him down' in the NBA Finals.
“What he did to Luka in the Finals, shutting him down, guarding him full court, making it unbearable offensively, led Dallas to questioning Luka as the leader of the team, and questioning whether he was in shape or not," Spears said, via Celtics CLNS.
The issue with that report is that Doncic averaged 29.2 points, 8.8 rebounds and 5.6 assists in the five Finals games, while fighting through ailments throughout the entire postseason.
