As reported last week at the trade deadline, the Pistons have 'serious interest' in Mavericks point guard Jalen Brunson, who's set to be a free agent this summer.

And the Mavericks have little interest in losing him, to the point that when Detroit recently inquired about Brunson, Dallas ended the discussion by asking for Cade Cunningham.

Per ESPN's Tim McMahon, "It was a pretty brief conversation. (The Pistons) asked about Brunson. The Mavericks told them, 'Sure, we've got interest in Cade.' And that was about that. But to be continued. To be continued this summer."

The 25-year-old Brunson is averaging career-highs this season in points (16.1), assists (5.4) and rebounds (3.8) per game. The Pistons, who could use a natural point guard to play alongside Cunningham, will likely make a run at him this summer as one of the few teams in the NBA slated to have significant cap space.

Whether the Mavericks let him leave is a different story.
