DALLAS (105.3 The Fan) - The Dallas Mavericks lost a key assistant at the end of October, when Rick Carlisle's right hand man, Stephen Silas, was hired as the new head coach of the division rival Houston Rockets.
On Sunday afternoon, the Mavs made their move to replace Silas, reportedly hiring Utah Jazz assistant Zach Guthrie to the staff, per ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.
A graduate of the University of Texas at Austin, Guthrie began his career in the NBA as an assistant video coordinator with the San Antonio Spurs in the 2011-12 season, before joining the Orlando Magic in the 2012-13 season as a Advanced Scouting Manager.
Guthrie then became the Basketball Strategy & Technology Manager for the Utah Jazz in June of 2015, eventually working his way up to a high level assistant within Quin Snyder's staff.
With Silas now gone, Guthrie will do his best to help the Mavs to rekindle the magic of an offense that was historically great last season, and led the NBA in multiple categories throughout the year.
