Mavs in "advanced talks" to hire Jared Dudley as assistant coach

DALLAS (105.3 The Fan) - The Dallas Mavericks and new head coach Jason Kidd are reportedly in advanced talks to hire 14-year NBA veteran Jared Dudley as an assistant coach.

NBA insider Marc Stein was the first to report the Mavs' pursuits of Dudley on Tuesday morning.


Stein also described Dudley's first potential coaching job with the team as a "prominent role".

Dudely, who spent the last two years in Los Angeles with Kidd, has had eight different stops in his NBA career, including two separate stints in Phoenix, where he played a total of seven seasons.

Dudley also spent time with the Charlotte Bobcats, Los Angeles Clippers, Milwaukee Bucks, Washington Wizards.

Towards the end of his career with Phoenix, Brooklyn and Los Angeles, Dudley's value was mostly based in his leadership, where he as known as one of the more respected locker room presences in the NBA.

Dudley was able to parlay that intangible skill into an NBA title with the Lakers in 2020, which was the first of his career.
