The Dallas Mavericks are moving on from Jason Kidd.
The team announced on Tuesday that they have mutually parted ways with its head coach of the last five seasons. Kidd had four years and more than $40 million remaining on his contract, per ESPN.
The move comes after the Mavs hired Masai Ujiri as their new president earlier this month.
“"As we evaluate the future of our basketball program, we believe this is the right moment for a new direction for our team," Ujiri said in a statement. "We have high expectations for this franchise and a responsibility to build a basketball organization capable of sustained championship contention.
"We will conduct a thorough, disciplined search for our next head coach and continue to evaluate our entire basketball operations staff to ensure we compete at the standard Mavs fans expect and deserve."
Kidd had a 205-205 record as head coach of the Mavs, which included appearances in the 2022 Western Conference Finals and 2024 NBA Finals. In 2025, the team traded Luka Doncic to the Lakers, which eventually led to the ouster of general manager Nico Harrison in November.
