Mavs guard Luka Doncic voted into third consecutive NBA All-Star Game

DALLAS (105.3 The Fan) - Mavericks guard Luka Doncic is headed to the NBA All-Star Game for the third consecutive season. However, his role will be a little bit different this time around.

For the first time, Doncic will come off the bench after being voted into the game as a starter the previous two seasons. Doncic just missed out on a starting spot, finishing third in voting totals behind Warriors guard Stephen Curry and Grizzlies guard Ja Morant.

Doncic's place on the roster was a foregone conclusion, as the Slovenian superstar is averaging 26 points, 8.9 assists and 8.8 rebounds per contest. Despite his co-star Kristaps Porzingis missing 18 games this season, the Doncic-led Mavs find themselves in fifth place in the Western Conference standings with a 29-23 record.

The All-Star reserves, which are voted on by head coaches in each conference, were unveiled on Thursday night. Joining Doncic from the Western Conference are Suns guard Devin Booker, Jazz center Rudy Gobert, Warriors forward Draymond Green, Jazz guard Donovan Mitchell, Suns guard Chris Paul and Timberwolves big man Karl-Anthony Towns.

Thanks to a new format the league implemented in 2018, the teams aren't cemented just yet, as it's now up to the leading vote-getters in each conference to draft their teams. That honor belongs to Lakers forward LeBron James and Nets forward Kevin Durant, who will select their teammates during the All-Star Draft Show on Feb. 10 on TNT.
