DALLAS (105.3 The Fan) - The Dallas Mavericks and their new big man, Christian Wood, have reportedly 'commenced dialogue' towards a contract extension, according to NBA insider, Marc Stein.

The two teams will officially have until June 30 to come to an agreement on an extension. However, if they are unable to come to terms, Stein has also reported that the Mavs would explore the trade market for Wood.

The NBA Trade Deadline is set for February 9. If the Mavs choose to wait until the summer to let things play out, they risk losing Wood to free agency.

Wood, who began the season on the bench behind JaVale McGee, has since been inserted into the starting lineup, with the Mavs going 7-1 as a starter alongside Luka Doncic.

In 10 total starts, Wood is averaging 19.8 points, 8.3 rebounds, and 2.6 blocks per game.

For the season overall, wood is averaging 17.8 points and 7.9 rebounds in 27.8 minutes per game, while shooting 54.4 percent from the field and 40.3 percent from three.
