DALLAS (105.3 The Fan) - NBA insider Brian Scalabrine says the Mavs can't settle on acquiring a DeMar DeRozan or a John Collins-type of player to complement Luka Doncic this offseason.
Instead, Scalabrine says the Mavs should be aiming higher.

"I would be fine with all of them (Collins, DeRozan or Ben Simmons), but I think they got to do better than that. If I had to pick one (it would be) John Collins," Scalabrine said on the K&C Masterpiece on 105.3 The Fan. "And I'm assuming that (Kristaps) Porzingis will be on the move and they'll try and upgrade the position. But I feel like they got to do better than that this summer because Luka's extension is going to be like $40 something million and your cap space is gone (after he signs the deal)."
And who exactly should they be aiming for?
"There are guys to be had out there. You guys got to figure out what it would take to get one of those guys (Damian Lillard or Bradley Beal). And if you have to sell the next five first-round picks, the rights to (swap picks), (do) whatever you have to do. But you have to look to try and get a Damian Lillard or a Bradley Beal-type of player. You need to look at getting an All-NBA-type of player to go alongside him (Luka). … And I do believe this thing is about to break. Once the Finals is over, (and) it's all about the NBA Draft, there's going to be a lot of traction as far as trades and stuff like that. I do believe that this stuff is really going to explode this summer because there are a lot of teams shifting (what they're doing)."
According to Shams Charania of The Athletic, Dallas is among the teams "expected to show interest in Collins" due to the belief that "he could be attainable as a restricted free agent."
