HOUSTON (SportsRadio 610) -- The Houston Rockets are finalizing an agreement with Mavericks assistant coach Stephen Silas to be their next head coach, ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski reported Wednesday.
Former longtime coach and Rockets great John Lucas and former Rockets head coach Jeff Van Gundy were also in the running, but team owner Tilman Fertitta elected to go with Silas.
Silas, 47, was a finalist for the Rockets in 2016 before they hired Mike Mike D'Antoni. Silas has worked closely with Mavericks guard Luka Doncic, who has a similar style of play as Rockets guard James Harden.
