(WWJ) - It appears some football fans are publicly airing their grievances over the Lions' hotly disputed loss to the Dallas Cowboys on Saturday night -- and they're taking to Metro Detroit freeways to do it.
Numerous billboards with the phrase "Decker reported" have popped up along I-75 and I-696. The message flicks back and forward with another digital display that shows the Lions' current record of 11-5 etched out and replaced with 12-4, the record the Lions could've had, had they clinched a win at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
The 20-10 loss has found itself at the center of intense scrutiny by football analysts and fans across the nation as the Lions took a late lead over the Cowboys on Saturday night when left tackle Taylor Decker caught a go-ahead two-point conversion pass with 23 seconds to play.
The officials called it back due to illegal touching, ruling that Decker had never reported as an eligible receiver despite replays showing Decker engaging with an official before the snap.
"I did exactly what coach told me to do," Decker said in a post-game interview. "I went to the ref, said I report. Yeah, I don't know."
While head coach Dan Campbell fumed in the immediate aftermath of the game, he and his team are putting it behind them and focusing on the next obstacle.
Campbell said in a postgame interview with WWJ sister-station 97.1 The Ticket that he and his staff will be in the building Sunday "to break this game down and grade it out where we need to improve, because we'll see this team again."
"I hope we see this team again," he said of the Cowboys.
Social media ire was further incensed on Tuesday after the NFL doubled down on their officiating. Tom Pelissero reported that league officials sent a video of the controversial call to clubs across the league regarding players reporting as eligible.
