DFW artist turns your favorite sports moments into incredible body art

We are fortunate in North Texas to have some amazing museums and galleries featuring artists and their work. When it comes to Mike Hamill Jr sports body art, it's spread throughout DFW.

We had a chance to catch up with the Supernova Tattoo Studio of Forney artist to talk about his love of sports body art as well as his passion for DFW sports and the Fan.

How long have you been doing tattoos?

I've been tattooing 11 years now.

Did you always have a passion for doing sports tattoos and how did that come about?

"Sports and art were the things I loved most growing up. When I started to gravitate more towards realistic tattoos I figured why not combine the two? It's truly a dream come true to be able to do realism combined with sports."

What is your favorite sports tattoo you have done?

"This is a tough question. I'd have to go with the Myles Garrett tattoo or the Tom Brady one."

Talk about the process as far as putting the sports moment in the body from start to finish.

"It all starts with finding a good photo. Sometimes great photos don't make great tattoos. So the client and I have to find what works best for both of us. Then we move to color choices and making the stencil, properly sizing the tattoo. Choose the needles that are best fit for the job and sit down and get going."

How long do they usually take and what is the longest?

"At minimum 8 hours, typically in one sitting. The longest sports tattoo was definitely Myles Garret. It took 11 1/2 hours."

Are there any sports tattoos you haven't done and want to do?

"Absolutely. Literally, anything that's a color photo of an athlete I will do! I have a Texas tech Pat Mahomes design I'm dying to do."

How did you start listening to The Fan?

"I've been listening for as long as I can remember. My dad is the biggest cowboys fan I know and that's where his radio stayed, as does mine now. #tolo"

Awesome to see a Turn it On, Leave it On listener like Mike creating amazing art on sports fans throughout DFW.
