Could Sam Darnold’s tenure with the New York Jets be coming to an end?
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, multiple teams have reached out to the Jets with interest in trading for the 23-year-old quarterback.
The Jets are in an interesting position, where they hold the No. 2 overall pick in the draft and could choose to rebuild with another quarterback, or possibly even trade for Deshaun Watson.
Darnold, the No. 3 overall pick in the 2018 draft, has not quite lived up to expectations, failing to play a full 16-game season and struggling with interceptions.
Still, Darnold is just 23 years old and many believe his career is still salvageable.
The Jets’ new head coach, Robert Saleh, spoke highly of Darnold but stopped short of making any commitment to the quarterback for 2021.
While the Jets have not confirmed that they received trade calls for Darnold, the quarterback market is hot, with Matthew Stafford and Jared Goff already being traded, Carson Wentz likely to follow and many others possibly switching teams, too.
