Dallas favorite Jordan Spieth has withdrawn from this week's AT&T Byron Nelson golf tournament in McKinney.
Spieth, an alum of the University of Texas and Dallas Jesuit, is nursing a painful wrist injury he suffered at last week's Wells Fargo Championship where he missed the cut, going seven over after the first two rounds.
In a statement Monday, Spieth says "I had severe pain in my left wrist and had doctors confirm an injury that requires rest and limited movement."
By skipping the Nelson this week, he's hoping to be healthy for next week's PGA Championship in Pittsford, New York. The PGA is the only Major Spieth has yet to win.
Today's Byron Nelson festivities include a celebrity pro-am which is not open to the public, at Trinity Forest Golf Club in Dallas.
On Wednesday there's another pro-am at the home course of TPC Craig Ranch and that one is open to the public. In fact, it's free. Amateurs will be paired with top PGA Tour pros from this year's field.
The first round of the Byron Nelson is Thursday with defending back-to-back champion K.H. Lee seeking a three-peat.
This is the third Byron Nelson at TPC Craig Ranch in McKinney. This year, the course will include "Ranch 17", a fully enclosed stadium on the par-3, 17th hole. Organizers expect up to 6,000 fans in Ranch 17 at any given time.
