HOUSTON (SportsRadio 610)- Justin Verlander underwent Tommy John Surgery on Wednesday, Astros general manager James Click announced Thursday.
The rehab process is expected to take 12-14 months, which would keep him out of the entire 2021 season, the last year of a two-year, $66 million contract extension he signed with the Astros prior to last season.
Verlander, 37, allowed one run over six innings on opening day, but was placed on the injured list with a forearm strain three days later. He tried to return, but three days after throwing a 24-pitch simulated game on September 16 he announced he'd undergo ulnar collateral reconstructive surgery, also known as Tommy John Surgery.
