(610 Sports) - Chiefs GM Brett Veach has been masterful this offseason, locking up the core of a team that is fresh off of a 31-20 Super Bowl LIV win over the San Francisco 49'ers. The latest of those stars to sign a long-term contract is 5x Pro-Bowl TE Travis Kelce.

Kelce was made available to the media on Friday as the Chiefs made the four-year $57,250,000 contract extension official and he expressed his excitement to stay in Kansas City for another 6 years and remain with an organization that has prioritized not only winning, but also the health and well-being of their players. When asked about his success on the field and how he has put together four consecutive 1,000 yard receiving seasons, he alluded to the coaches and training staff who have done a great job of helping keep him on the field. "Arguably half the job is keeping guys on the field in the NFL, because we know how physically demanding it is. I've been very fortunate to have this kind of circle of success around me and it keeps getting better and better, knowing the front office and coach Reid are bringing in guys that are gonna help us win."

With Friday being the first day back in pads, Kelce was asked how this team was going to keep the hunger, after winning a Super Bowl and so many key players locking up long-term contracts? Without hesitation Kelce pointed to the leadership in the locker room, specifically QB Patrick Mahomes. "Pat is such a competitor and that never stops, he brings a competitive mentality to every play," he replied. "We have great leaders and they bring it every day, nobody is complacent."
