As wildfires continue to rip through the state of California, many residents are being forced to evacuate their homes — including Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James.
James tweeted early Monday morning — just before 4 a.m. PT — that he was driving around with his family struggling to find a place to stay after being forced to evacuate from his Brentwood home.
Twenty minutes later, he provided an update that he indeed found a room after a “crazy night,” and sent his best wishes to families affected, as well as the first responders attempting to extinguish the fires.
The brush fire that cause James to leave broke out early Monday along Interstate 405, north of the Getty Center museum and continued to move westward at a rapid pace, covering 250 acres and forced a mandatory evacuation of approximately 3,300 homes, per ESPN.
About 500 firefighters were responding to the blaze, which the Los Angeles Fire Department called a “very dynamic situation due to high winds.”
Over the weekend, California Governor Gavin Newsom declared a state of emergency due to wildfires that have spread across the state, including the Kincade Fire in Sonoma County which has forced 180,000 people to evacuate, as well as the Tick Fire in Santa Anita, which was 70 percent contained as of Sunday night after 4,600 acres of damage.
Of the state’s 58 counties, 43 were under red flag warnings for high fire as of Sunday.
The fires have not yet resulted in the cancellation of any sporting events. The Lakers are scheduled to play the Memphis Grizzlies at the Staples Center on Tuesday.
