We have to wonder if Steve Cohen and the Mets settled on their offer for Francisco Lindor based on Twitter crowdsourcing methods.

But whether or not the fans' opinions played a part in determining the total — and I can pretty comfortably assume that they didn't — the offer is reportedly in, according to sources including RADIO.COM Sports MLB insider Jon Heyman.

Heyman says that the Mets' offer to Lindor is for $325 million over 10 years, and this is "believed" to be the final number.

SNY's Andy Martino had the number first, adding that Lindor has not yet accepted to offer and has until his "self-imposed Opening Day deadline" to finalize a deal. Martino also says that the sides were "not close to an agreement" and that there wasn't much momentum toward a deal getting done, which is somewhat of an eyebrow raiser considering Heyman said that this is believed to be the final number.

However, this doesn't mean that Lindor can't be convinced to accept a deal like this. It's not exactly a small amount of money, and it would give him a top-five largest contract extension in league history, tying Giancarlo Stanton's $325 million deal that he signed with the Marlins in 2014, though Stanton's was spread over 13 years. The three players with larger extensions in total money — Mookie Betts ($365 million), Mike Trout ($360 million) and Fernando Tatis Jr. ($340 million) — are arguably the three biggest stars that baseball has to offer, so such a deal would put Lindor in some nice company.

The Mets acquired Lindor, in addition to Carlos Carrasco, from the Cleveland Indians earlier this year. The 27-year-old shortstop is one of the most exciting blends of power and speed that his position — or the league as a whole — has to offer, and the team's decision to make a move for him pushed them near the top of the power rankings as we head into opening day.
