Buster Posey has officially opted out of the 2020 MLB season, the catcher announced on a Friday morning Zoom call with reporters.
Posey explained the logic behind his decision:

July 10, 2020 Buster said the identical twin girls were born prematurely a week ago, but are doing well. Will need to be in the NICU for a while. Adoption became final yesterday. Both Farhan and Kapler were on call and completely support his decision to opt out of season. #sfgiants

July 10, 2020 For Posey, it was family over his job.
"From a baseball standpoint it was a tough decision," Posey
said. "From a family standpoint and feeling like I'm making a decision to protect our children, I feel like it was relatively easy."
The team issued the following statement, in the wake of the news, which had been largely expected during Posey's absence from the team's summer training camp at Oracle Park:
