Westlake is looking for its third consecutive state championship in what HC Todd Dodge has announced will be his final season with the Chaps. 6A #1 Westlake opened with a 54-13 win over Temple. QB Cade Klubnik is among the best in the state. He accounted for three TDs last week.
5A DENTON (0-1) at 6A FORT WORTH CHISHOLM TRAIL (1-0) - 7 p.m. Friday
Denton opened with a 34-28 loss to Lake Dallas. RB Coco Brown carried 45 times for 243 yards and a TD last week. Chisholm Trail kicked off the year with a 34-23 win over 5A Wichita Falls. They scored the game's last 20 points in that come-from-behind win.
6A HALTOM (0-1) at 5A BIRDVILLE (0-1) - 7 p.m. Friday
Haltom lost to 5A rival Richland, 52-29. QB Angel Moreno had a couple of TD passes for the Buffs. Birdville's Hawks lost to 6A Keller Central, 42-13. QB Aiden Dollar threw for 219 yards and 2 TDs.
6A FORT WORTH PASCHAL (1-0) at 5A RICHLAND (1-0) - 7 p.m. Friday
Paschal opened with a win over 5A Granbury, 38-35. Richland took down 6A rival Haltom, 52-29. Royals QB C.J. Nelson racked up 383 total yards and five TDs.
HURST L.D. BELL (0-1) at NORTH GARLAND (1-0) - 7 p.m. Friday
L.D. Bell lost to Little Elm, 56-10. RB Jalen David ran for 114 yards and a score. North Garland beat Irving, 34-7. QB Godspower Nwawuike ran for a score and had a TD pass.

The Colony lost to Corsicana, 14-7. North Crowley beat 5A rival Crowley, 33-7.

This is the season opener for Boswell. State-ranked Colleyvill Heritage was very impressive in their 42-7 win over rival Grapevine. WR Hogan Watson had ten receptions for 208 yards and a TD in the "Battle for the Red Rail."

Crowley lost to 6A rival North Crowley, 33-7. And in the "Parker County Peach Classic," Weatherford fell to Aledo, 47-7. QB C.J. Thornton had a TD run for the Kangaroos.
6A TROPHY CLUB BYRON NELSON (1-0) at 5A GRAPEVINE (0-1) - 7 p.m. Friday
Byron Nelson picked up a 28-22 win over Plano in the opener. TCBN built a 28-6 lead and held off a late Wildcat rally. Grapevine looks to shake off a 42-7 loss to Colleyville Heritage. RB Caleb Texada ran for 97 yards and a score last week.
KELLER (1-0) at DENTON BRASWELL (1-0) - 7 p.m. Thursday
Keller handed 5A Abilene Cooper its first shutout loss since 2015, 39-0. Indians RB Austin Coleman ran for 114 yards and three scores. Braswell defeated Mesquite Horn, 49-10. RB Jaylon Burton ran for 109 and 2 TDs.
WYLIE (0-1) at KELLER CENTRAL (1-0) - 7 p.m. Friday
Wylie lost to Plano West, 49-32. Pirates QB Isaac Phe threw for 243 yards and 3 TDs in the defeat. Keller Central opened with a 42-13 win over 5A Birdville. QB Jack Helsley had four touchdown passes.
6A KELLER FOSSIL RIDGE (1-0) at 5AD2 #6 ENNIS (1-0) - 7:30 p.m. Friday
Fossil Ridge held on for a 42-41 win over 5A Azle. KFR RB Landen Chambers ran for 216 yards and four touchdowns. Ennis showed off its explosive offense in a 56-42 victory over Red Oak. Lions RB Dee Johnson ran for 160 and 3 TDs.
LEWISVILLE (1-0) at KELLER TIMBER CREEK (0-1) - 7 p.m. Thursday
The Fighting Farmers rolled over Arlington Bowie in the opener, 50-7. Timber Creek dropped a tough one in a 56-49 loss to Rockwall-Heath. QB Jacob Porter turned in one of the area's best opening week performances, as he threw for 409 yards and 5 TDs.
5A MANSFIELD LEGACY (0-1) at 6A NORTHWEST EATON (1-0) - 7 p.m. Thursday
Legacy opened with a 42-13 loss to Broken Arrow, OK. RB Max Harris ran for 2 TDs. Eaton defeated 5A Arlington Seguin, 22-13. QB Tyler Fussell accounted for three touchdowns.
6A #3 SOUTHLAKE CARROLL (1-0) at 6A #10 ROCKWALL-HEATH (1-0) - 7:30 p.m. Thursday
This one should be an all-out offensive clinic. Carroll beat Rockwall-Heath 72-57 last year in a matchup that featured nearly 1,300 yards of total offense. Both teams displayed midseason form in the openers. Carroll dispatched Highland Park, 45-21. Jr. QB Kaden Anderson threw for 261 yards and 3 TDs in his first varsity start. Rockwall-Heath Sr. QB Josh Hoover is already on his way to putting up ridiculous stats this season. Hoover was 19 of 24 for 398 yards and 4 TDs last week, as Rockwall-Heath beat Keller Timber Creek, 56-49.
6A #5 HUMBLE ATASCOSITA (1-0) at 6A #8 ALLEN (1-0) - 7 p.m. Friday
Now in their tenth season playing in Eagle Stadium, Allen has yet to lose a home game in the facility. That streak could be tested this week by higher-ranked Atascosita, which whipped Klein Collins last week, 48-7. Then again, the Allen Eagles have fought off a lot of challengers in similar scenarios. Allen rolled to a 56-30 win over Plano East in the opener. RB Jaylen Jenkins ran for 204 yards and 3 TDs, and also had a kickoff return for a touchdown.
6A #11 DENTON GUYER (1-0) at 5AD1 #1 DENTON RYAN (1-0) - 7 p.m. Friday
Guyer rolled into this rivalry matchup with a 46-17 win over Hebron. QB Jackson Arnold threw for a TD and ran for a score. Defending 5AD1 state champion Ryan crushed state-ranked Longview last week, 40-7. Raiders Jr. RB Kalib Hicks ran for 139 and three scores.
5A NORTH FORNEY (1-0) at LITTLE ELM (1-0) - 7 p.m. Friday
North Forney got started with a 39-29 win over Woodrow Wilson. WR Tylan Crochet had three TD receptions. Little Elm blasted Hurst L.D. Bell, 56-10. QB John Mateer picked right up where he left off last year, with 3 TD tosses and a touchdown run.
McKINNEY (1-0) at FLOWER MOUND MARCUS (0-1) - 7 p.m. Friday
McKinney defeated Springdale Har-Ber last week, 35-28. Marcus opened with a tough 38-34 loss to Dallas Jesuit. The Marauders rotated Jaxxon Warren and Washington state transfer Cole Welliver at QB in the opener, and that is likely to continue this week.
GRAND PRAIRIE (1-0) at McKINNEY BOYD (1-0) - 7 p.m. Friday
Grand Prairie's Gophers routed South Garland last week, 67-6. GP ran for more than 12 yards per carry in a balanced rushing attack, and the defense held South Garland to -13 yards rushing. Boyd defeated Midwest City, OK last week, 37-0. QB Ryan Shackleton threw for two scores. The impressive win by Boyd helped the locals sweep the inaugural McKinney ISD Classic featuring out-of-state opponents.
MANSFIELD LAKE RIDGE (0-1) at PROSPER (1-0) - 7 p.m. Friday
Lake Ridge did not fare as well in facing an out-of-state opponent in the opener, losing to Tulsa Union, OK, 48-20. Prosper opened with a 34-19 win over South Grand Prairie. QB Harrison Rosser threw for two scores and added a TD run.
Private Schools #4 PLANO PRESTONWOOD CHRISTIAN (1-0) at COPPELL (1-0) - 7 p.m. Friday
Prestonwood takes on a UIL opponent this week, after rolling over Frisco Legacy Christian in the opener, 56-10. RB Tarris Murray ran for 133 yards and two scores. Coppell defeated Sachse, 42-28. WR Dylan Nelson had seven receptions for 246 yards and 3 TDs. Nelson also ran for a score.
HEBRON (0-1) at 6A #14 ARLINGTON MARTIN (0-1) - 7 p.m. Friday
Hebron looks to bounce back after a 46-17 loss to Denton Guyer. Hawks WR Takoda Bridges caught six passes for 115 yards and a TD. Martin fell to Lake Travis, 40-28. Warriors WR Trey Cochran had seven receptions for 103 yards and 2 TDs.
PLANO (0-1) at ROWLETT (0-1) - 7 p.m. Friday
These two took tough losses by identical 28-22 scores last week, and the defeat was even more painful for Rowlett, as it came to Waxahachie in overtime. Plano fell to Trophy Club Byron Nelson, despite 91 yards rushing and a TD from RB Kameron Jones. Rowlett QB Harris Boyd threw for 265 yards and 2 TD in the opener.
LAKE HIGHLANDS (1-0) at PLANO EAST (0-1) - 7 p.m. Friday
Lake Highlands looked strong right out of the gate in a 42-13 victory over Mesquite Poteet. QB Caden Dotson passed for 278 yards and 5 TDs. Plano East opened with a 56-30 loss to Allen. PESH piled up 498 yards of total offense last week, but also allowed 519.
PLANO WEST (1-0) at NORTH MESQUITE (1-0) - 7 p.m. Thursday
Plano West defeated Wylie, 49-32. North Mesquite allowed just 50 yards total offense in a 35-0 shutout of Richardson.
DALLAS JESUIT (1-0) at 6A #13 ROCKWALL (1-0) - 7:30 p.m. Friday
Jesuit avenged a loss in the 2020 opener with last week's 38-34 win over Flower Mound Marcus. Rockwall made an early statement in its 42-29 win over 6AD2 state finalist Cedar Hill. The balanced Rockwall offense ran for 280 yards, including 196 and three scores from RB Zach Hernandez.
5A DALLAS MOLINA (0-1) at 6A IRVING (0-1) - 7:30 p.m. Friday
Molina fell to Dallas Lincoln, 22-20. Irving lost to North Garland, 34-7.
GARLAND LAKEVIEW CENTENNIAL (1-0) at IRVING MacARTHUR (1-0) - 7 p.m. Thursday
Lakeview Centennial opened with a 34-10 win over Arlington Sam Houston, as RB Zechariah Dunston ran for 227 yards and two scores. MacArthur started the year with a 50-3 win over 5A Dallas Adamson.
6A IRVING NIMITZ (0-1) at 5A WYLIE EAST (1-0) - 7:30 p.m. Friday
Nimitz fell to Princeton in the opener, 21-20. RB Eric Williams rushed for 149 yards and 3 TDs. Wylie East held off Mount Pleasant, 19-14. QB Terrell Washington, Jr., ran for 157 yards and a TD.
RICHARDSON (0-1) at GARLAND (1-0) - 7 p.m. Thursday
Richardson fell to North Mesquite, 35-0. Garland got off to a hot start with a 55-13 win over Dallas Kimball. QB Cergio Perez had five TD passes in the victory.

Berkner fell to 5A Frisco Lebanon Trail, 20-14. W.T. White opened with a 63-22 loss to Frisco Heritage.
5A FRISCO WAKELAND (0-0) at 6A RICHARDSON PEARCE (0-1) - 7 p.m. Friday
This will be Wakeland's first game of the season, after COVID forced a cancellation with Sulphur Springs last week. Pearce lost to 5A Frisco Independence, 46-17. QB Hayden Hawthorne threw for 206 yards and a score.
ARLINGTON (1-0) at CEDAR HILL (0-1) - 7 p.m. Friday
Arlington picked up a 35-28 win over Dallas Skyline. Colts QB Ryley Zalusky had three touchdown passes. 2020 state finalist Cedar Hill hopes to avoid an 0-2 start after losing to Rockwall in the opener, 42-29. Longhorns QB Cedric Harden, Jr., ran for two TDs.
6A #23 DeSOTO (0-1) at ARLINGTON BOWIE (0-1) - 7 p.m. Friday
After trailing Converse Judson by a big margin at halftime last Friday night, a furious second-half comeback fell just short for the Eagles in a 35-28 defeat. DeSoto QB Matt Allen threw for three touchdowns. Bowie opened with a 50-7 loss to Lewisville.
WAXAHACHIE (1-0) at ARLINGTON LAMAR (0-1) - 7 p.m. Friday
Waxahachie gave new HC Shane Tolleson a thrilling win in his debut with the Indians, who defeated Rowlett in OT, 28-22. Keith Abney scored the overtime game-winner on a TD pass from QB Roderick Hartsfield, Jr. Lamar fell to Euless Trinity, 45-27, despite 250 yards passing and three touchdowns from QB Jaden Morris.
SOUTH OAK CLIFF (0-0) at 6A #9 DUNCANVILLE - 7:30 p.m. Friday
Not only is this a delayed season opener for SOC, but the Golden Bears are likely to see a very surly Duncanville team. The Panthers hosted California's Mater Dei, the nation's top-ranked team according to Max Preps, and it was ugly. Duncanville absorbed a 45-3 defeat. Expect HC Reginald Samples to have his team clicking on all cylinders this week.
6A ARLINGTON SAM HOUSTON (0-1) at 5AD2 #9 MANSFIELD TIMBERVIEW (0-1) - 7 p.m. Thursday
Sam Houston lost to Garland Lakeview Centennial, 34-10. RB David Robinson ran for 88 yards and 2 TDs. Timberview ran into a buzzsaw last week, falling to Bixby - Oklahoma's top-ranked team - by a 69-14 count. Wolves QB Jaeden Marshall threw for 258 yards and two scores.
SOUTH GRAND PRAIRIE (0-1) at MESQUITE (0-1) - 7:30 p.m. Friday
SGP fell to Prosper in the opener, 34-19. RB A.J. Newberry ran for 88 yards and 2 TDs. The Skeeters lost to Flower Mound, 30-14. Mesquite QB Chance Edwards threw for 175 and a TD.
6A SACHSE (0-1) at 5A RED OAK (0-1) - 7:30 p.m. Friday
Sachse fell to Coppell, 42-28. Mustangs WR Jamari Harts had two TD receptions. Red Oak dropped a shootout to Ennis, 56-42. Hawks QB Jaylon Robinson threw for 2 TDs and ran for three more.
5A PRINCETON (1-0) at 6A SOUTH GARLAND (0-1) - 7 p.m. Thursday
Princeton held on for a 21-20 victory over Irving Nimitz. Vyron Hambrick gave Princeton the lead for good with a 40-yard interception return for a TD. South Garland lost to Grand Prairie, 67-6. Jacob Crim had a TD catch.
5A LANCASTER at 6A DALLAS SKYLINE (0-1) - 7:30 p.m. Friday
Lancaster ran into a tough Port Arthur Memorial squad last week, falling 27-7. RB Isaiah Broadway had a TD run for the Tigers. Skyline lost to Arlington, 35-28. Anthony Davis and Que Ruff each had kickoff returns for touchdowns for Skyline.
MESQUITE HORN (0-1) at 5AD1 #4 HIGHLAND PARK (0-1) - 7:30 p.m. Friday
Things don't get any easier this week for Horn, which lost to Denton Braswell in the opener, 49-10. Chris Dawn had a kickoff return TD for the Jags. Highland Park fell to state-ranked 6A Southlake Carroll at AT&T Stadium, 45-24. In his first varsity start, Scots Jr. QB Brennan Storer threw for two touchdowns.
5A MANSFIELD SUMMIT at 6A MANSFIELD - 7 p.m. Friday
Summit was impressive last week against one of the top teams in Oklahoma, despite losing to Jenks, 20-14. Summit QB David Hopkins ran for a TD and threw for a score. Mansfield took down an out-of-state foe in a 28-21 win over Bentonville West, AR. Tigers RB Tyrell Croom ran for 204 yards and a TD.
LAKE BELTON (1-0) at FORT WORTH ARLINGTON HEIGHTS (0-1) - 7 p.m. Friday
First-year program Lake Belton came out a winner in its varsity debut. They defeated Mexia, 42-21. Arlington Heights opened with a 33-28 loss to FW Wyatt.
FORT WORTH BREWER (1-0) at DENISON (1-0) - 7 p.m. Friday
Brewer picked up a 23-20 win over Midlothian. RB Montrail Cushionberry ran for 95 yards and a score. Denison beat rival Sherman for the ninth straight year, 37-13.
WACO UNIVERSITY (0-1) at GRANBURY (0-1) - 7 p.m. Friday
Waco University lost to A&M Consolidated, 68-7. Granbury dropped a tough one to FW Paschal, 38-35.
JUSTIN NORTHWEST (0-1) at McKINNEY NORTH (1-0) - 7 p.m. Friday
Despite a brilliant effort from QB Jake Strong, Northwest lost to Frisco Memorial, 23-14. Strong accounted for 377 total yards with a TD run. McKinney North opened with a 44-26 victory over Westmoore, OK. QB Gavin Constantine threw for four touchdowns.
SAGINAW (1-0) at FRISCO HERITAGE (1-0) - 7 p.m. Thursday
Saginaw broke into the win column with a 24-21 decision over FW Southwest. Frisco Heritage routed Dallas W.T. White, 63-22. QB Easton Swetnam ran for 168 yards and 3 TDs. He also threw for 272 and three additional scores.
BURLESON (1-0) at BURLESON CENTENNIAL (1-0) - 7:30 p.m. Friday
Burleson's Elks polished off Abilene Wylie last week, 42-3. Centennial edged Prosper Rock Hill, 34-28. RB Elijah Zeh raced 65 yards for the game-winning TD. This annual rivalry matchup is known as the "Boot Game." Centennial has won bragging rights the last three years and holds a 5-4 lead in the series.
FORNEY (1-0) at MIDLOTHIAN (0-1) - 7:30 p.m. Friday
Forney defeated Whitehouse, 21-20. Midlothian lost to FW Brewer, 23-20. RB Deago Benson ran for 99 yards and a TD.
FRISCO CENTENNIAL (0-1) at LAKE DALLAS (1-0) - 7 p.m. Friday
Frisco Centennial fell to Royse City, 44-30. QB Tyler Rich threw for 204 yards and a touchdown, and also ran for a TD. Lake Dallas took down Denton in the opener, 34-28. QB Brendan Sorsby ran for three scores.

Independence beat Richardson Pearce, 46-17. Reggie Bush scored on a kickoff return and a punt return. Rider opened with a 38-13 win over 4A Dumas.

After cruising to a 47-7 win over Weatherford last week, ten-time state champ Aledo will be tested in this one, which gets honorable mention for Game of the Week consideration. The Bearcats hit the road to face an extremely tough Lone Star squad led by Sr. QB Garret Rangel, who threw for 298 yards and 4 TDs last week in a 59-14 win over San Antonio Cornerstone.
FRISCO REEDY (0-1) at FRISCO (1-0) - 7 p.m. Friday
Reedy looks to bounce back after a heartbreaking 50-49 loss to Frisco Liberty. Reedy RB Dennis Moody ran for 225 yards and 2 TDs. Frisco scored on its first five possessions in rolling to a 54-24 win over Sulphur Springs.

Newman Smith fell to Terrell, 45-9. Creekview opened with a 47-21 win over 4A FW Western Hills.

Cleburne survived for a 43-42 win over Houston Heights, as Heights missed a 32-yard FG on the final play. It was the first meeting between the two schools in a century. Cleburne and Houston Heights played to a 0-0 tie and were declared co-champs in the first UIL state championship game in Jan. 1921. FW Southwest lost to Saginaw, 24-21.

5A DALLAS CONRAD (1-0) at 4A NORTH DALLAS (0-0) - 7:30 p.m. Friday
Conrad opened with an 18-7 win over 4A FW Diamond Hill-Jarvis. This is the first game of the season for North Dallas.

It's the annual showdown known as the "Oak Cliff Super Bowl." Carter beat Kimball on the field last year, 24-20, but was later forced to forfeit that victory for using an ineligible player. This is the season opener for Carter. Kimball lost to 6A Garland last week, 55-13.
4A DALLAS ROOSEVELT (0-1) at 5A DALLAS SPRUCE (1-0) - 7:30 p.m. Friday
Roosevelt also faced a larger opponent last week, losing to Bryan Adams, 34-6. Spruce opened with an 18-0 shutout of Samuell.

Lebanon Trail defeated 6A Richardson Berkner, 20-14. Corsicana held off The Colony, 14-7.

Greenville opened the year with a 63-36 loss to 4A Tyler Chapel Hill. Frisco Liberty won a thriller over Frisco Reedy, 50-49. Liberty QB Keldric Luster ran for three touchdowns, threw for three scores and cashed in the game-winning two-point conversion with :08 left.

Crandall defeated Jacksonville, 51-36. Kaufman came from behind late to beat 2020 4AD1 state finalist Lindale, 39-36.

Decatur lost to Kennedale, 21-7. Alvarado lost to Graham, 36-35.

Both teams opened strong with blowout victories. Sanger rolled over Benbrook, 56-7. Lake Worth shut out 5A FW North Side, 51-0.

Midlothian Heritage was impressive in a 50-23 win over 5A Everman. Kennedale picked up a 21-7 victory over Decatur.

Waxahachie Life opened the season with a 57-6 loss to Waco Connally. Athens defeated Brownsboro, 41-7.
