The Giants were in agreement on a two-year contract with free-agent outfielder Michael Conforto on Friday morning, according to multiple reports.
The deal is for $36 million and includes an opt out after the first season, according to Bob Nightengale of USA Today.
Conforto, who turns 30 in March, was one of the top remaining free agents this offseason.
The former first-round draft pick and 2017 All-Star selection sat out the entire 2022 season while recovering from offseason shoulder surgery after suffering an injury late in the 2021 campaign. His name surfaced in rumors as a potential late-season signing for any number of playoff contenders, but a deal never materialized.
Conforto, who played collegiately at Oregon State, is a client of super agent Scott Boras. The Conforto deal comes just days after the Giants' agreement on a free-agent contract with another Boras client, Carlos Correa, fell through over apparent medical concerns. Correa later signed with Conforto's former team, the Mets.
In parts of seven seasons with New York, Conforto logged 2,980 plate appearances, hitting .255/.356/.468 with 132 home runs. He has played all three outfield positions, with most of his appearances coming in right field.
