Fresh off a dominating performance in Saturday's win over the Astros (7 IP, 0 Runs, 5 Ks), Nathan Eovaldi was named to the All-Star Game on Sunday when MLB announced the pitchers and reserves for each team.
And he won't be the only Ranger joining starters Corey Seager, Marcus Semien, Josh Jung and Jonah Heim in Seattle, as Adolis Garcia was announced as one of the American League's reserve outfielders, resulting in the club occupying six of the AL's 32 roster spots in the Midsummer Classic.
Eovaldi finished first among all A.L. starting pitchers in player balloting with 182 votes. It marks his second career All-Star selection, as he pitched a scoreless 4th inning for the American League at the 2021 All-Star Game in Denver as a member of the Boston Red Sox.
Eovaldi is 10-3 and has a 2.64 ERA and a 0.99 WHIP in 17 starts this season for a Rangers club that is 50-34 despite their marquee signing, Jacob deGrom, only starting six games before suffering a season-ending elbow injury.
Garcia ranks second in RBIs (66), second in runs scored (61), tied for 3rd in home runs (20) and sixth in slugging percentage (.508) in the American League.
Both players could wind up in the starting lineup, as Eovaldi's biggest competition for the starting spot, Rays ace Shane McClanahan, was placed on the injured list over the weekend with a back injury. And one of the three starting outfielders, Yankees slugger Aaron Judge, is on the IL with an injured toe.
