The Rangers are pushing all of their chips into the center of the table.

Texas has acquired Cardinals starting pitcher Jordan Montgomery and reliever Chris Stratton in exchange for infielder Thomas Saggese, pitcher Tekoah Roby, and left-handed reliever John King, according to ESPN's Jeff Passan.

Roby and Saggese are the Rangers' No. 11 and No. 14 rated prospects, according to MLB Pipeline.

Montgomery, who will become a free agent after this season, is 6-9 with a 3.42 ERA in 21 starts for St. Louis in 2023. He has a career ERA of 3.77 in his seven MLB seasons.

The 30-year-old Montgomery and newly-acquired Max Scherzer will join a Rangers rotation that has struggled recently and lost its top starter, Nathan Eovaldi, who was placed on the injured list on Sunday with a right forearm strain.

Stratton has struggled at times out of the Cardinals bullpen this season, posting a 4.36 ERA in 42 appearances. The right-hander formally pitched for Rangers manager Bruce Bochy in San Francisco.
