DALLAS (105.3 The Fan ) - The Rangers have acquired right-handed pitcher Josh Sborz from the Los Angeles Dodgers in exchange for minor league right-handed pitcher Jhan Zambrano.
In order to make room on the roster for Sborz, the club has designated right-hander reliever Jimmy Herget for assignment.
Sborz, 27, made 4 relief appearances spanning four stints for the Dodgers in 2020, allowing one earned run in 4.1 innings. The Dodgers designated him for assignment on Feb. 11 to make room on their roster for right-handed pitcher Trevor Bauer.
Sborz did not appear in the 2020 postseason, but was a member of the taxi squad for the entirety of the Dodgers’ run to a World Series title, including for the final three rounds at Globe Life Field.
Sborz has spent his entire professional career in the Dodgers organization since he was selected in the second round of the 2015 June draft out of the University of Virginia. For his career, he's 0-1 with a 6.08 ERA in 13.1 innings pitched.
Zambrano, 19, saw his only professional action with the Rangers’ Dominican Summer League affiliates in 2019, combining for a 2.55 ERA and 1.083 WHIP over 12 games (11 starts).
Herget had a 3.20 ERA over 20 games (one start) with the Rangers in 2020 after being acquired from Cincinnati in a waiver claim on Dec. 2, 2019. The Rangers have seven days to trade, release, or outright Herget to the minor leagues.
